Farewell to Prof. Benedicto B. Kazuzuru: SUA Mourns a Giant in Statistics

The Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) community is in deep mourning following the passing of its only professor of Statistics, Prof. Benedicto B. Kazuzuru, on the morning of December 3, 2024, at Muhimbili National Hospital (Mloganzila) in Dar es Salaam. His untimely death marks the loss of an exceptional academic and a mentor to countless students and colleagues.

Prof. Kazuzuru’s burial ceremony took place in two parts, one at his home in Idiva, Kihonda, and the other at the Solomon Mahlangu Campus (SMC) in Morogoro. Hundreds of family members, staffmates, colleagues, students, and friends gathered in somber unity to bid farewell to the revered professor.

The atmosphere was heavy with grief but filled with heartfelt tributes as mourners celebrated his life, his dedication to academia, and his significant contributions to the field of statistics, nationally and internationally. His work and mentorship have left an indelible mark on SUA, the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CONAS), and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

As the family and SUA community laid him to rest, they collectively expressed their profound sorrow and gratitude for his immense contributions. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics, where Prof. Kazuzuru dedicated his entire professional life, will forever feel his absence.

SUA, CONAS, and the academic fraternity will miss you dearly, Prof. Kazuzuru. May you rest in eternal peace.
