Dr. Beda John Mwang’onde is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology at the Department of Biosciences, Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). His research interest focuses on the areas of Ecosystem, Public Health, and Food Security and Safety. He has a broad knowledge of the epidemiology of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and Poverty Related Diseases. He has worked as a Research Fellow on Taenia solium cysticercosis epidemiology in the Department of Zoology and Wildlife Conservation, University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania. Currently, he is conducting research on antimicrobial resistance, bio-based nutraceuticals, and the epidemiology of Taenia solium cysticercosis through Non-discriminating access for Digital Inclusion (DigI) “Connect the Unconnected” for health InfoInternet. His publications range from medical entomology to foodborne zoonotic cestodes. He teaches undergraduates and supervises postgraduates. Mwang’onde holds a Ph.D. in Applied Zoology from the University of Dar es Salaam.
Further, Mwang’onde is experienced in coordination and leadership roles as he served as a coordinator of Postgraduate Students at UDSM from 2012 to 2014; a coordinator for the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CoNAS) Research, Publication, and Consultancy Committee (2017-2020); a Sectary General of the Sokoine University of Agriculture Staff Association (SUASA) (2017-2020); Acting Deputy Principal (CoNAS) (July-October 2020); and in various occasions, he formed teams to develop institution working tools such as Research Policy (2019), MSc Curriculum (2019), SUA Research Agenda (2022). Mwang’onde is heading the Department of Biosciences, SUA since 2020 to date.
