Mr. Wilfred Michael Lyimu is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Biosciences, College of Natural and Applied Sciences of the Sokoine University of Agriculture. Lyimu holds a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology from KU Leuven, Belgium, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and Laboratory Sciences from Sokoine University of Agriculture (Tanzania). Prior to commencing his Ph.D. education, Lyimu was involved in the teaching of Biochemistry and Introductory Cell Biology and Genetics to undergraduate students. Mr. Lyimu also supervised 4 undergraduate students in their special research projects. His research interest is mainly within the areas of molecular biology, antimicrobial resistance, host-pathogen interaction in livestock, and vaccinology. Currently, Lyimu is pursuing his Ph.D. studies within the division of Animal and Human Health in the Department of Biosystems, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering (KU Leuven, Belgium). His research focuses on investigating the interaction between non-typhoidal Salmonella and host immune responses to gain insights that would help design more improved anti-salmonella immune-based control strategies in poultry, as alternatives to antibiotics.
