This conclusion emanated from a detailed research done by Dr. Mwakabona from the Department of chemistry and Physics, SUA-Tanzania and other Scientists at KU Leuven University in Belgium. The work produces a thesis titled: A “Smart” Approach on Fluoride Removal: Detection in Water Sources and Removal with biomass” and peer reviewed publications.
Microbial and chemical contamination of the drinking water is mentioned as major issue undermining social life in Tanzania and the developing world in general
Dr. Hezron Timothy Mwakabona (In the middle)
He Says;ur wishes to address such challenges are hampered by affordability of the present technologies, the fact that focused our research on looking for low-cost materials for water decontamination. We thus used available materials such as plant biomass and we have discovered that combining iron with waste sisal fibre in a special way produces potent adsorbents for fluoride with various defluoridation properties. And we propose this as a smart approach for developing world.
The department of Chemistry and Physics is taking this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Hezron Timothy Mwakabona for successful defence of his PhD. in Engineering Science at Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of engineering science, KU Leuven (Catholic university of Leuven), Belgium.
