Dr. Barakabitze completed his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Plymouth, UK in 2019. He received Master Degree of Electronics and Communication Engineering with a first class from Chongqing University, PR China, in May 2015 and BSc. in Computer Science with Honours from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2010 and.
Dr. Barakabitze is recognised as the BEST Male ICT Researcher of 2021, an award that is awarded by the ICT Commission of Tanzania. He was also the BEST Young Researcher of the Year 2021, an award from the Research and Innovation Committee of SUA where he is currently working. Dr. Barakabitze is also recognised as the 2015 outstanding International Graduate Student of Chongqing University, China due to his excellent performance. He was a visiting researcher in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Cagliari, Italy and the ITU- T-Standardization Department in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Dr. Barakabitze has served as a discussant for PhD concept notes, PhD proposals and PhD theses presented by PhD candidates at SUA and other Universities. He has also participated in preparing different important documents for the ICT Commission including the National Digital Skills Development Framework and new BSc. Information Technology and Innovation Curriculum at SUA.
He has led/participated with various research teams in several national and international projects, funded by the Government of Tanzania and international donors including: (a) Enhancing Farm-Scale Crops Yield Prediction using Machine Learning in Internet -of-Agro-Things in Tanzania, (b) Morogoro Youth Empowerment through the Establishment of Social Innovation (YEESI) Lab for Problem-Centred Training in Machine Vision: (www.yeesi.org), (c) Prediction of Diagnostic Accuracy using Big Data Analytics and Visualizations from Trained African Giant Pouched Rats for Tuberculosis Detection at SUA APOPO, (d) Integrated Machine Learning Internet of Things (IoT) Adaptive Smart Cloud Farming System for Small-Scale Farmers in Tanzania, and (e) Enhancing entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability in higher education in Africa (EEISHEA)- (https://eeishea.org).
Dr. Barakabitze has over 40 publications in International peer-reviewed conferences and journals with 975 Google citations and H-index of 17. Dr. Barakabitze has served as session chair of Future Internet and NGN Architectures during the IEEE Communication Conference in Kansas City, USA. He was also the Keynote and Panel Chairs at the International Young Researcher Summit on Quality of Experience in Emerging Multimedia Services (QEEMS 2017), which was held from May 29–30, 2017 in Erfurt, Germany. Mr.Barakabitze is a Reviewer for various journals and serves on technical program committees of leading conferences focusing on his research areas.
I am currently teaching Telecommunication Systems and Network Management course for 3rd year students. I welcome students to join my AI4D Research Group and conduct research in the field of future networks, digital and data –driven agriculture and food systems, health informatics, digital education technologies for 2030 and telecommunication systems.
